Compare the veggies at the grocery store to our farm fresh taste!

Recent rains have brought an end to the drought conditions that have plagued us for the past year or so. Here at the farm everything is green and flourishing. The cattle are fat and lazy foraging on lush grass. Fall greens have grown amazingly fast and we will have some for sale this week. The only problem now is soil too wet to get our field work done.

With the uncertain financial markets and shaky economy along with rising prices along with flat or lowering income and real estate equity many people are a bit anxious about the foreseeable future. It may be a good time to evaluate what is really important and necessary. Things like family, friends, community, and faith are timeless in value. Good healthy food, clean water, adequate shelter and clothing are necessary. To get really basic, food and water are essential to sustaining life. But many people place less emphasis on food choices than on things like, say, a new car or big screen TV.

At Peterson Farm, we are committed to providing the best quality, healthiest, best tasting food we can:

Ø  Our grass-fed Jersey beef is 85 to 90% lean. Compared to other breeds, Jersey has higher omega 3’s, beta carotene, vitamin E, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and monounsaturated fatty acids. Jersey beef consistently has a low score on the Warner-Bratzier shear force test meaning greater tenderness. The taste is ‘wonderful’.
Ø  Our Pastured Chicken has about 40% less fat than conventional chicken. They contain higher levels of vitamin A and E as well as omega 3 fatty acids. They taste like real chicken.
Ø  Homegrown Pork is grown outside on the ground. The feed is mainly whole grains with small amounts of green forage. The meat is lean with delicious flavor.
Ø  Produce is grown without pesticides, herbicides, or artificial fertilizer. Many varieties are heirlooms and absolutely no GMO’s. Of course, it has to pass our taste test to be included in our production.

This week beef consist of ground beef, sirloin tip and round roast, sirloin and flank steak, and a few NY strips.

We have whole chickens, split breasts, whole legs, backs, necks, and ground chicken pet food.

In pork we have mild breakfast sausage in 1 pound bulk and links and sweet Italian links. We also have shoulder and ham roasts, ham steaks, and a few pork chops.

Produce consists of turnip greens, kale, mustard spinach, heirloom multiplier onions and Winesap apples.
